Chrome Extension Extractor - CRX & ZIP ("the extension") lets you download any Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons extension as an original CRX package or as an unpacked ZIP for source inspection, and convert local CRX → ZIP offline. Your privacy is central — the extension is built to do everything locally without collecting your data.
No data collection. No tracking. No server.
All processing happens on your device. We do not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal data with the developer or any third party.
📦 What the extension does
When you click Download as ZIP or Download as CRX on a Chrome Web Store (chromewebstore.google.com) or Edge Add-ons (microsoftedge.microsoft.com) page, the extension:
- Reads the current tab's URL to extract the 32-character extension ID and the page title (used only to generate a clean filename like
my-extension.zip) - Fetches the official CRX package directly from
clients2.google.comoredge.microsoft.comdelivery servers - For ZIP: strips the CRX header (CRX2/CRX3) locally and triggers a download via
chrome.downloads - For local CRX → ZIP: reads the file you selected via drag-and-drop, slices the ZIP payload locally, and triggers a download — the file never leaves your device
🚫 Data we do NOT collect
- No browsing history — we only inspect the active tab when you click the extension, and only if it's a store page
- No personal data — no names, emails, cookies, or identifiers are collected or stored
- No analytics or tracking — no Google Analytics, no telemetry, no ads
- No external transmission — the downloaded CRX/ZIP content is never uploaded anywhere; Edge/Chrome store fetches go directly to official Google/Microsoft servers
- No background collection — the extension is idle until you interact with it
🔑 Permissions and why they're needed
Saves the CRX or ZIP file to your Downloads folder via chrome.downloads.download() with saveAs picker.
Adds "Download as CRX / ZIP" to the right-click menu, but only on store pages (documentUrlPatterns). No menu elsewhere.
Temporarily accesses the active tab's URL and title only when you click the extension to verify it's a store page and build the filename.
Allows fetching the CRX from official stores: clients2.google.com, clients2.googleusercontent.com, edge.microsoft.com, *.delivery.mp.microsoft.com, *.microsoft.com. No other hosts are accessed.
🤝 Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or transfer any user data to third parties. We do not use data for advertising, credit, or profiling. The only network requests are the CRX fetches to Google/Microsoft's official extension delivery servers, which are required to download the extension you requested.
⚙️ Local processing
CRX → ZIP conversion is 100% offline. The CRX header parsing (Cr24 magic, version 2/3, header stripping) runs entirely in your browser's service worker or popup — no server, no upload, no AI processing.
👶 Children's privacy
The extension does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13. It is a utility tool with no sign-in or data entry.
📝 Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes will be reflected in the Chrome Web Store listing.
